John Proctor
is one of the main characters in the play. He is the protagonist and is the
symbol of hope for the community and the accused people. John Proctor’s
testimony in the court could have helped to save the accused men and women of
the community. But, right before he can convince the judges, he himself is
accused of witchcraft. Throughout The Crucible, John Proctor expresses his strength
and stays confident the same way Arthur Miller did when he was accused of being
communist. In my opinion, Miller used Proctor to represent himself through The
Crucible.
