John Proctor is one of the main characters in the play. He is the protagonist and is the symbol of hope for the community and the accused people. John Proctor’s testimony in the court could have helped to save the accused men and women of the community. But, right before he can convince the judges, he himself is accused of witchcraft. Throughout The Crucible, John Proctor expresses his strength and stays confident the same way Arthur Miller did when he was accused of being communist. In my opinion, Miller used Proctor to represent himself through The Crucible.

Most people today who practice witchcraft do not consider themselves witches. These people practice paganistic religions that are made up of many different nature based beliefs.

When the thought of a witch comes to mind, most people today think of people who are dark, evil, and want to hurt others. But, modern witches aren't necessarily bad people. These witches believe in being close to nature and being free to find their own path through the living world. They do not wish to base their life off of one god but chose many to be examples for their life.

Most people today believe in the common misconceptions of witches being ugly women with warts on their face that ride brooms and cast spells on people. Witches today choose to create an alternate path for their lives to live through nature and not a religion that relays on a god.

Today, the Marshal came to my cell and got me. He brought me to the court room and when I walked in, there stood Elizabeth, my beautiful wife. I hadn't seen her once in these three long months. I didn't even now if she was still alive for sure. For some reason eveyone left the courtroom and let Elizabeth and i talk in privacy. Then she started to tell me that if I didn't confess to practicing witchcraft that i would be hanged. Elizabeth talked me into confessing and I had my mind set. Everyone reentered the room and we started the confession process. I had to confess. I did confess but then they wanted me to even sign the confession. I knew that i was lieing but i was lieing to save my life. But then I knew that lieing was a sin. I love my life and I love my sweet wife Elizabeth but I would rather die with a good name and in good standing with God than die as a liar and live the rest of my life with a soiled name. I tore the paper confession and threw it to the ground.

I've been in this jail cell now for almost three months. I am nothing like the old John Proctor that everyone knew. I'm filthy and smell horrible. I've grown a beard and I've barely eaten anything in these three months. I'm damned into this cell for a crime that i did not commit. All because of one girl, almost everyone in Salem is in jail. I will never understand how anyone can believe her when they know how unworthy she is. She has blinded everyone in the city and now just because of her half of us will hang! She is the real witch here! I knew all along that Abigail Williams was trouble. First, she was out for my wife. But now she's out for the whole town.

I have a feeling that Elizabeth is starting to doubht me again. Today, when i got home from seeing our field, she was upset for some reason. She started to tell me how she thought i had went to salem today and told me of how she worried that i was going to see Abigail. I told her that i hadno intention of going to salem and that i would never hurt her again like that with Abigail. Then, Elizabeth told me that i needed to go into Salem to talk to the court. I really don't wish to go to Salem. I have no business there but she bids me go toell the court of what Abigail had told me in her uncles house a week ago. But, what she didn't know is that what Abigail had told me was in privacy and I know that if Elizabeth knew I was alone with Abigail she will never trust me again.

Abigail Williams, I made that mistake once and i won't do it again. She tried to tempt me again. She brought up what happened between us when she was my servant and tried to get me to cave in and sin with her again. I scolded her and told her that there will be no more of that mess. Then she brought up my dear wife Elizabeth. She started talking bad about her and telling me that she is ruining her name in the city. I really fear for my wife Elizabeth. Abigail is ruthless and sneaky. I fear that Abigail is out to get her and i won't let it happen. I can't trust her. Even Parris doesn't trust her and he is kin to her. All I know is that the girl is bad news.

That darn no good Mary Warren. I have forbid her to leave my house while she is in duty of service to my family. My wife, Elizabeth, Can't ever get anythging done without Mary Warren around. I ought to beat some sense into that girl. I swear, one day i might. She's down here in town with these no good girls. All day I have seen people walking my road coming to salem. Everyone is saying there's witchcrafting being done in this city. And Abigail Williams, that rotten evil girl. She's so mischievious. I'm sure that she is up to no good around here. She never does anything that is good.
